A young boxer, Hannah Rapp, 26, has been killed in an alleged road-rage incident in Texas. She was cycling near the community of Navasota when deputies found her lying in the road after responding to a call about a vehicle striking a woman.
According to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, Rapp and another cyclist were on the road when the driver of the vehicle, identified as 31-year-old Charles Medina, passed them and then stopped his vehicle, reversing and striking Rapp. Medina has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Rapp had been boxing for less than five years and was making a name for herself in the sport. She balanced her training with her job as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M and had recently challenged for the WBC women's featherweight championship.
The World Boxing Association has paid tribute to Rapp, calling her an "invaluable member of our boxing family." The organization has extended its deepest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.
Rapp's record was 8-0-1 before she was defeated in the women's featherweight title fight at MVPW-04 on June 13. Her opponent, Tiara Brown, paid tribute to Rapp in an emotional Instagram post, calling her "the best dance partner I have ever faced as a pro."
