UMVA has learned that a shocking scandal has rocked a high school near Phoenix, Arizona, leading to the resignation of its principal and the termination of two teachers accused of having a sexual relationship with the same student.
The scandal unfolded at Centennial High School in Peoria, Arizona, where rumors of inappropriate teacher-student relationships had been circulating for months, ultimately leading to the removal of teachers Haley Beck and Angela Burlaka from their positions.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the two teachers are accused of engaging in explicit and disturbing behavior with the student, including the exchange of thousands of texts, explicit videos, and allegations of a sexual relationship.
The investigation has revealed that Beck, 27, sent the student $630 via Apple Pay, with one transaction captioned "this money exchange just felt like straight prostitution," and that she also manipulated the student's grades and attendance records, giving them money, drugs, and alcohol.
UMVA has gathered that the unidentified victim, who turned 18 in December 2024, was allegedly abused by the teachers over the course of several years, beginning during their sophomore year at the school, with detectives believing that the abuse spanned years.
The principal of the school, Scott Hollabaugh, has resigned over the controversy, despite having known about the abuse for some time, with reports suggesting that he received "multiple complaints from students and staff" about Haley Beck, but failed to take adequate action.
In a statement, Hollabaugh expressed his gratitude to the students, families, teachers, staff, and coaches for their work in building a culture of achievement at the school, but acknowledged the pain and sadness caused by the actions of the two former employees, and recognized the need for healing and renewal at the school.
The school community is now left to pick up the pieces and move forward, with the district working to ensure a smooth transition and position the school for continued success, despite the devastating scandal that has shaken the community to its core.
