In a recent visit to North Carolina, Vice President JD Vance addressed a crowd, focusing on economic gains and the critical situation unfolding in Iran. The event served as a platform to highlight what he described as a positive shift in the nation’s financial landscape.
Vance pointed to a resurgence in the housing market, noting new home purchases had reached a five-year high. He also emphasized a six-month decline in rental costs and revealed that the average tax refund for North Carolina families was approximately $3,700. Interest rates, he stated, were at their lowest point since the previous administration.
Kelly Loeffler, Administrator of the Small Business Association, introduced Vance, speaking forcefully about the need to curtail wasteful government spending and address issues of fraud. She referenced instances where tax dollars were allegedly misdirected and criticized policies she believes contributed to rising crime rates.
The situation in Iran dominated a significant portion of the discussion. Vance underscored the U.S. commitment to preventing Iran from developing nuclear capabilities, characterizing it as a consistent and unwavering principle across multiple administrations. He described current U.S. actions as a military operation dedicated to that single goal.
Pressed by a reporter about his advice to the President prior to recent strikes, Vance remained guarded. He explained his reluctance to disclose details from classified briefings, citing both legal concerns and the need to preserve the President’s ability to receive candid counsel.
Vance also used the opportunity to rally support for Michael Whatley, the Republican nominee for Senate in North Carolina. He sharply contrasted Whatley with his Democratic opponent, Roy Cooper, accusing Cooper of prioritizing foreign interests over the needs of American citizens and demonstrating more enthusiasm for international aid than for domestic concerns.
Responding to Vance’s criticisms, a spokesperson for Roy Cooper defended his record on law enforcement and public safety, dismissing accusations of being soft on crime. They countered by highlighting Whatley’s alleged support for cuts to local police funding.
Concluding the event, Vance detailed the progress of a fraud task force launched earlier this year. He revealed that investigations were expanding beyond Minnesota, with a particular focus on uncovering fraud in California. The task force, he explained, was empowered to conduct a comprehensive national review of fraudulent activities spanning many years.
Vance disclosed that investigations in Minneapolis and surrounding areas had already uncovered at least $19 billion in fraudulent activity during the previous administration, signaling a determined effort to hold those responsible accountable.
