UMVA has learned that a brazen act of fly-tipping has been caught on camera, and the perpetrator received a surprising payback when the rubbish was dumped right back on their doorstep.
The incident occurred in Cardiff, where a maintenance worker, Dean Gauci, was tending to a block of flats he manages. He noticed seven sacks filled with household waste and was determined to find the person responsible.
Dean Gauci took it upon himself to sift through hours of CCTV camera footage and caught the culprit in the act at 9am on Friday. The footage revealed a neighbour who lived just 10 houses away from the property.
When confronted, the neighbour claimed he was going to take care of the mess, saying 'I was going to move this, sorry mate.' However, Dean Gauci wasn't having it. He wanted to do the right thing and catch the guy, rather than simply disposing of the rubbish himself and charging the landlord.
Dean Gauci took a creative approach to teaching the neighbour a lesson. He filmed himself leaving the dumped rubbish outside the culprit's front door before knocking. The neighbour's response was amusing, and he must have felt embarrassed by his actions.
The neighbour's excuse for dumping the waste was not enough to save him from the consequences. Dean Gauci's determination to find the perpetrator and give them a taste of their own medicine has sparked a lively debate about community responsibility and accountability.
