UMVA has learned that a violent attack on a pregnant woman and a man outside a Charlotte, North Carolina restaurant has led to the arrest of a 31-year-old homeless man with a long history of criminal offenses.
Paul Abdul Hicks, the suspect, allegedly used a knife, as well as his hands, feet, and teeth to assault the victims, leaving them with serious injuries. The pregnant woman, 26, and the 34-year-old man were attacked outside the restaurant in a brazen and terrifying incident.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Hicks has a staggering record of at least 12 prior arrests, showcasing a disturbing pattern of violent behavior. His rap sheet includes crimes such as robbery, fleeing and eluding arrest, assault, and drug trafficking, raising questions about how he was repeatedly released back into the community.
A bond sheet reviewed by authorities labels Hicks "a danger to the community," highlighting his history of violent offenses. This latest attack has sparked outrage, particularly in light of liberal policies like cashless bail that allow repeat offenders to commit heinous crimes.
The incident bears striking similarities to other recent cases in Charlotte, North Carolina, where violent offenders with extensive criminal backgrounds have been linked to horrific crimes. The murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska by 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. last year, and the stabbing of a pregnant woman by Marvina Marie Hardy with a significant criminal record, have left the community reeling.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Hicks' arrest has brought renewed attention to the need for stricter policies to keep violent offenders off the streets. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this latest attack, many are left wondering how such a violent individual was allowed to terrorize innocent civilians time and time again.
