TRUMP'S $100 MILLION GOLF TAB: You Won't Believe Who's Paying!

TRUMP'S $100 MILLION GOLF TAB: You Won't Believe Who's Paying!

The narrative surrounding the current presidency often includes boasts of golfing skill, yet whispers of doubt follow each swing. But beyond the playful jabs lies a stark financial reality: a rapidly escalating cost to American taxpayers.

Analysis reveals that in just over fourteen months, presidential golf outings have totaled a staggering $101.2 million in travel and security expenses. This figure already represents nearly two-thirds of the entire cost incurred during the first term, suggesting a trajectory towards a potential $300 million by the end of the second.

A recent Saturday morning trip to a West Palm Beach course marked the 56th visit to that location since the inauguration, and the 110th day spent on the golf course during 435 days in office. This translates to more than a quarter of the president’s time in office dedicated to the sport.

The sheer scale of the logistical operation drives these costs. Each outing necessitates the deployment of Air Force One, transport planes, and extensive security details, quickly accumulating substantial expenses.

Mar-a-Lago stands as the most expensive destination, with each visit costing approximately $3.4 million. This is due to the complex security requirements of protecting both the Atlantic coastline and the Intracoastal Waterway, including armed boat patrols and offshore Coast Guard vessels.

Other locations, while less costly, still represent significant expenditures. Trips to Bedminster, New Jersey, average around $1.1 million, while visits to the Doral resort in Florida reach approximately $2.7 million.

The most extravagant single trip to date was a visit to Scottish resorts last summer, totaling a remarkable $9.7 million. These calculations are based on a Government Accountability Office report from the first term, which revealed that four early 2017 trips to Mar-a-Lago cost $13.6 million.

The core drivers of these costs – Air Force One operations, vehicle transport, and comprehensive security – remain unchanged. Furthermore, these figures haven’t been adjusted for inflation, meaning the actual cost is likely even higher.

During the first term, it took two years to reach $100 million in golf-related spending, with a total of $151.5 million spent over 293 days on the course. This time, the same milestone was surpassed far more quickly, indicating an accelerated pace.

Recently, these outings have been categorized as ‘executive time’ on the president’s public schedule. When pressed for clarification, the press office offered a circular definition: ‘Executive time refers to executive time.’

Critics have voiced strong concerns about the spending. One observer noted the irony of such expenditures occurring amidst rising gas prices and an affordability crisis for many Americans, suggesting the funds could be better used to support struggling citizens.

The current situation is a striking contrast to previous criticisms. Before taking office, the president frequently criticized Barack Obama for his golf habits, even stating he wouldn’t have time for the sport himself, promising to focus on ‘working for you.’

He continued this critique, targeting Joe Biden’s trips home to Delaware, despite the significant disparity in costs. Obama’s outings were considerably cheaper, primarily taking place at Joint Base Andrews, and Biden utilized smaller aircraft more frequently.

As the numbers continue to climb, one thing is clear: this is a total far exceeding any acceptable score on the golf course, and a financial burden that continues to draw scrutiny.
