South Korean‑Chinese artist Shi Shi, based in Taiwan, has released a new extended play titledThe Taste Of…, her first major project composed largely in English.
The EP collects five songs that the singer wrote over the past two years while working with producers in the United States and South Korea.
It follows her recent win for Best Female Singer at the Golden Melody Awards, the Mandarin pop equivalent of the Grammys, after previous accolades for Best Vocal Album and Best Mandarin Album in earlier years.
Shi Shi intends the record to showcase her multilingual talents, featuring tracks in English, Mandarin, and Korean as a nod to her heritage and a step toward a broader international audience.
During a virtual roundtable with Philippine media on July 22, she described the EP as a “sample of different emotions and tastes,” comparing each song to a distinct cocktail flavor.
The artist noted that the music reflects the cultural influences of K‑pop and Mandopop that shaped her upbringing in Korea and career in Taiwan.
Collaborators on the project include K‑pop producer parkhyeon, California‑based producer Different Sleep, Brazilian producer Andrø Pop, and Chinese‑American producer Morrison Ma.
Two tracks, “Falling in Love” and “Tteokbokki,” feature Korean lyrics and draw on personal memories of her hometown, with the latter referencing a well‑known spicy rice‑cake dish from Gangneung.
Shi Shi said that when a melody or lyric feels off, she switches between Mandarin and Korean until the right emotional fit emerges.
Looking ahead, she plans to tour internationally and is eager to visit the Philippines for the first time, hoping to connect with local fans and explore potential collaborations.
