Dubbed “Operation Tidal Wave,” the March 9th action focused on individuals already flagged for prior criminal activity. These weren’t minor infractions; the records detailed charges and convictions ranging from violent battery and domestic abuse to serious drug offenses and even home invasion.
The arrests weren’t limited to a single type of crime. Authorities uncovered histories of theft, aggravated battery, firearm violations, and obstruction of justice among those apprehended. Several individuals had already been deported, only to re-enter the country illegally, and others had failed to appear in court as required.
Those taken into custody hailed from Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, and Guatemala, each unlawfully residing within U.S. borders. The operation highlights a persistent challenge for law enforcement – the intersection of immigration violations and criminal behavior.
This recent success builds upon a larger, ongoing effort by the FHP. Since March 2025, the agency has apprehended over 9,000 individuals through the federal 287(g) program, a partnership designed to enhance immigration enforcement. Over 1,600 of those apprehended had prior criminal histories.
Officials emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining public safety. The operation wasn’t simply about enforcing immigration law; it was about removing individuals who posed a demonstrable threat to communities.
The success of “Operation Tidal Wave” underscores the critical need for strong partnerships between federal, state, and local agencies. Border security, authorities stated, is a shared responsibility, demanding a unified approach to protect citizens and uphold the law.
The FHP’s Criminal Alien Apprehension Team (CAAT) played a central role, demonstrating a commitment to proactively identifying and arresting those who have committed crimes, both within the U.S. and abroad. This decisive action, officials asserted, is a clear example of accountability in action.
