Allegations of Antisemitism Surround Prime Minister Mark Carney

Allegations of Antisemitism Surround Prime Minister Mark Carney

The question of whether Mark Carney is antisemitic has been a contentious issue for many months. As a prominent author and documentary filmmaker, I have been touring the country to discuss my new book and documentary, which shed light on the rise of antisemitic propaganda.

In my talks, I have been fielding questions from diverse audiences, including Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities. While I have encountered a range of queries about the explosion in antisemitism globally, one question consistently arises: Is Prime Minister Mark Carney antisemitic?

I typically respond that I don't know Carney well, as he is a bit of a mystery to me. However, based on my analysis of his statements and actions over the past year, I have concerns about his stance on Jewish issues.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney speaks at Holy Blossom Temple synagogue in Toronto on June 1, 2026.

Carney has made several comments that have sparked controversy, including his statement that Canada would continue to fund the UN agency whose employees participated in the October 7, 2023 massacre of Jews. In April 2025, he said he was "aware" of the fake "genocide" in Gaza, and later directed Canada to vote for a UN resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza without sanctioning Hamas.

In June 2025, Carney accused Israel of violating international law, and pledged funding to the Palestinian state, which is run by the designated terrorist entity Hamas. In September 2025, Canada recognized Hamas-led Palestine as a state, and again accused Israel of violating international law.

Carney's comments have been widely criticized by Jewish organizations and leaders in Canada. At a recent speech at Holy Blossom Synagogue in Toronto, he created an antisemitism advisory panel that included a former Liberal MP who had advocated against Hamas being designated as a terror group.

Carney's actions have also been alarming, including his praise for Donald Trump's deal with Iran, which would give the country billions and allow it to keep its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons program. He has also stated that Canada is "at a disadvantage" because it doesn't have a diplomatic presence in Iran, and there is talk of allowing Iran to reopen its embassy in Ottawa.

It's unclear why Carney is taking these positions, but one theory is that he is attempting to appease the Left by throwing an anti-Israel bone to his party's base. This cynical move makes him appear "progressive" but also raises questions about his commitment to Jewish values.

On Monday, I will be speaking at Holy Blossom Synagogue in Toronto, and I expect to be asked the same question again: Is Mark Carney an antisemite? My answer will remain the same: I don't know.
