In a move to reduce frustration for iPhone users, Apple has introduced a new feature in iOS 27 that allows users to customize the behavior of the microphone button in the Messages app.
The microphone button, which is often mistakenly tapped when typing text, can now be set to either start dictation, record an audio message, or turned off entirely. This change aims to prevent users from accidentally activating the wrong feature while typing.
To access this new feature, users need to navigate to the Settings app, scroll down and tap on Apps, then select Messages. From there, they can tap on the Show in Text Field setting and choose their preferred behavior for the microphone button.
Users can select either Record Audio, Start Dictation, or None, giving them more control over how the microphone button functions. This customization is a welcome addition for those who frequently use the Messages app.
It's worth noting that even if the microphone button is turned off, users can still access dictation by tapping the microphone button on the keyboard. Additionally, users can still send audio messages by tapping the (+) button on the left of the text entry field and selecting Audio.
With this new feature, users can now tailor the functionality of the microphone button to their needs, reducing the likelihood of accidental activations and making the Messages app more user-friendly.
