UMVA has learned that Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro may bring a less significant battery upgrade than fans have come to expect from the tech giant's annual releases.
The latest rumors suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro will feature battery capacities of 4056 mAh for the U.S. (eSIM-only) version and 4288 mAh for the Chinese (nano-SIM) version. If these figures hold true, they would represent the smallest year-on-year increases since the iPhone 12 Pro in 2020.
To put this into perspective, the iPhone 17 Pro had battery capacities of 3998 mAh (nano-SIM) and 4252 mAh (eSIM), meaning the new models would offer an increase of just 1.5 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively. This is a far cry from the more substantial upgrades seen in previous years.
In contrast, the nano-SIM version of the iPhone 18 Pro's predecessor saw an 11.6 percent increase in battery capacity, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro also boasted more significant boosts. It appears that Apple may be taking a more measured approach to battery upgrades this time around.
It's essential to note that these specifications are still speculative and may not reflect the final product. Apple may yet tweak the tech specs before launch, or the claimed specs may never have been accurate in the first place.
Even if the battery capacities do turn out to be smaller than expected, it's worth remembering that lower battery capacities do not necessarily correlate with lesser battery performance. The new phones will benefit from software optimizations and more powerful processors, which could help offset any potential drawbacks.
