UMVA has learned that a 36-year-old white Scottish man has been taken into custody in connection with a series of disturbing incidents in Edinburgh.
The troubles began when reports started flooding in about attacks on different retailers across the west and north of the city. In a separate incident, three other men were assaulted in the Telford Road and Leith Walk area, leaving the community on edge.
Footage circulating on social media shows a topless man brandishing a knife being subdued by officers. In a shocking moment, he can be heard shouting: 'I am protecting the country.'
The Scottish Association of Mosques has revealed that two of those attacked had attended prayers at their local mosque. The incidents have sparked widespread concern and condemnation.
Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton has issued a strong statement, assuring the public that 'there is no place for racism or faith-based hate in a Scotland which is at its best when we stand together.' She emphasized that public safety was the top priority and that officers responded swiftly to a fast-moving sequence of events.
First Minister John Swinney has expressed his deep concern over the attacks, stating that 'there is no place for violence, racism or intolerance in our country.' He has met with community groups to reassure them of the government's strong support.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the investigation is ongoing, with extensive work underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incidents. The community remains on high alert, with many calling for greater action to prevent such hate-fueled attacks in the future.
