UMVA has learned that the Ayala Museum is hosting an exclusive exhibition and lecture on June 10 and 11, showcasing the life and works of National Artist for Dance Agnes Locsin.

The exhibit delves into Locsin's remarkable journey as a National Artist for Dance, while the lecture, “The Path to Neo-Ethnic Choreography,” offers a glimpse into her early exposure to Filipino dance traditions and formal training.

Locsin will also share the stories behind her iconic works, including Igorot, Bagobo, and Moslem, as well as her latest exploration into Neo-Ethnic Tap Dance, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to experience her distinct movement language.

In a related event, the Department of Trade and Industry is presenting the Grand Winner of their Season 1 Young Creative Challenge Playwriting Category, Ang Pagbuo ng Baliana, a musical that highlights the significance of the gulangulang observance, a centuries-old tradition from Camarines Sur.

The play, written by Esmeralda Cado Albis, features original music by Eugene Belbis and stage direction by Luigi Nacario and Meldrig Costuna, and will be performed on June 10 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Makati City.

Meanwhile, the NCCA Gallery is hosting the group exhibit Taym Pers 5, which invites viewers to reflect on the importance of rest and mindful engagement in today's fast-paced world, featuring the latest works of the Alpas Art Group.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the Filipino playground expression “taym pers” or “time out,” and explores how individuals navigate time, memory, and human connection amid rapid social and technological change.

Kapitolyo Art Space is also hosting two exhibitions this June, Kuwadro and Bahaghari sa Dingding, which explore themes of freedom, identity, and belonging through diverse artistic approaches and personal narratives.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines has selected eight aspiring playwrights to participate in the Virgin Labfest Writing Fellowship Program, a 15-year-old initiative that offers lectures, workshops, and discussions on playwriting and script critiquing.

A new monograph on National Artist for Visual Arts Federico Aguilar Alcuaz is set to be released in 2026, featuring major new essays, an extensively researched historical timeline, and newly commissioned photography documenting over 300 artworks.

The Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) has opened submissions for its 59th year, inviting college students to participate in the country's longest-running student art competition with the theme “SULYAP.”
