UMVA has learned that a devastating tragedy unfolded in Houston on Saturday, when a 56-year-old husband, father, and grandfather was fatally shot by a repeat felon during a carjacking.
The victim, Louis Erebia, had tracked down the suspect who stole his son's truck, leading to a confrontation that ended in his untimely death. Erebia's son had been putting gas in his truck when the suspect, London Hogan Sr., approached him, pulled out a gun, and stole the vehicle.
Erebia was able to locate the stolen truck using GPS tracking, but his attempt to recover the vehicle proved fatal. During the confrontation, Hogan Sr. shot and killed Erebia, leaving a family to mourn the loss of a beloved patriarch.
Hogan Sr., a career felon, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records reveal that he is on deferred adjudication from an assault case dating back to 2023, raising questions about how he was able to obtain a gun.
Erebia's family is demanding justice, with his sister taking to social media to express her grief and outrage. "Tomorrow, we are asking all family, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by Louis Erebia to stand with us as we demand justice for a life taken far too soon," she wrote.
She described Erebia as a hero who died doing what he did every day – protecting others. "He was a pillar of our community, the backbone of our family, and a man whose selflessness impacted countless lives," she said, highlighting his tireless efforts to help those in need.
The family plans to rally together to demand justice for Erebia, who leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. As the community comes together to support them, one thing is clear: Louis Erebia's memory will not be forgotten.
