UMVA has learned that the 41-year prison sentence handed to Aimee Bock, the ringleader of Minnesota’s massive Feeding Our Future fraud scandal, is renewing scrutiny of Rep. Ilhan Omar over her ties to convicted figures in the $250 million scheme.
The convicted fraudster, who oversaw a network of fake meal sites that stole federal nutrition funds meant to feed low-income children during the COVID-19 pandemic, alleged that Omar was likely aware of restaurant owners billing the government for falsified or inflated claims.
"I struggle to believe that she wouldn’t have known," Bock told investigators, referring to Omar. More than 60 individuals, most of whom are members of the Somali immigrant community, have been convicted in the Feeding Our Future scandal.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that federal prosecutors have not charged Omar or accused her of participating in the fraud, but Republicans have accused her of weakening guardrails around the program that allowed a network of fake meal sites to fraudulently bill the government.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Omar has denied wrongdoing and told investigators that "any claim that I had knowledge of this scheme is flat-out false." However, state lawmakers allege Omar helped "create the conditions that led to Feeding Our Future" by "removing the guardrails" from the federal nutrition program.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Omar’s one-time staffer, Guhaad Hashi Said, who has been described as the "enforcer" of Omar’s prior congressional campaigns, is one of the convicted defendants. Said pleaded guilty in August to conspiring to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
In a stunning revelation, investigators have uncovered details about Omar’s ties to a Somali-owned restaurant that was ultimately convicted in the Feeding Our Future scheme. The restaurant received more than $16 million in fraudulent child nutrition funds used for self-enrichment.
Omar pointed out her provision was signed into law by President Donald Trump and implemented by his administration, but state lawmakers alleged her advocacy "undoubtedly helped the fraud expand."
The Minnesota Democrat has also come under recent scrutiny over alleged immigration fraud and her family’s finances. Vice President JD Vance said earlier this week that the Department of Justice is investigating Omar.
However, Omar fired back in an interview, saying Vance is "saying stupid s---." The investigation has sparked a heated debate about Omar’s ties to convicted figures and her role in the Feeding Our Future scandal.
