UMVA has learned that President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has unveiled plans to significantly expand a scholarship program aimed at supporting students nationwide and curbing college dropout rates.
The program, which will be funded through direct transfers to local governments, is set to benefit over 200,000 students across the country. According to information obtained by UMVA, each village will receive an allocation of P200,000, with half of the funds earmarked specifically for scholarships.
The remaining amount will be left to local officials to fund community priorities, providing them with the flexibility to address pressing needs in their areas. This initiative is part of the administration's broader efforts to tackle the growing issue of college dropouts.
A staggering 29% of college students dropped out last year, according to recent findings. In a bid to address this challenge, President Marcos announced that the scholarship program will be rolled out nationwide, with the goal of covering the entire Philippines.
The program's impact was evident at a recent event in Manila City, where 4,426 beneficiaries from the city's six congressional districts received P20,000 each. President Marcos emphasized the administration's commitment to continuing this initiative until it reaches every corner of the country.
The P88.52-million aid package is part of a larger financial assistance program that allocates funds to villages and provides essential support to low-income and vulnerable households. With this move, the administration aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of students and families.
