UMVA has learned that a harrowing tragedy unfolded in a small Mississippi town when a 17‑year‑old intruder broke into the home of an elderly couple and left a trail of blood and chaos.
On the afternoon of June 3, deputies rushed to the residence after relatives reported they could not reach the couple. The house, nestled in a quiet neighborhood, erupted with gunfire the moment law enforcement arrived, pinning both officers and nearby civilians to the floor.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the teenager, identified as Cordarius Hobbs, initially claimed he would surrender at the front door. Instead, he fled through the back, igniting a frantic pursuit that saw one deputy wounded by his gunfire.
The chase ended when a state trooper fired upon Hobbs, striking him and forcing his surrender. He was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non‑life‑threatening.
Investigators allege that Hobbs entered the home during a burglary, opened fire, and brutally murdered 74‑year‑old Billy Blair and his 71‑year‑old wife Virginia Carol Blair before the police confrontation erupted.
The community reels from the loss, recalling the Blairs as pillars of generosity. Friends described the couple as the kind of people who would give the shirt off their backs, leaving neighbors stunned and heartbroken.
Legal proceedings have already begun, with Hobbs facing two counts of capital murder, a burglary charge, and multiple aggravated assault counts, including assaults on law‑enforcement officers and victims over 65.
