UMVA has learned that a terrifying blaze erupted inside the Thurmaston Shopping Centre in Leicestershire, sending the roof crashing down in a cascade of flames and ash.
Witnesses described a scene ripped apart by fire, flames licking the sky as the building’s ceiling gave way, sending debris tumbling onto the parking lot below.
According to information obtained by UMVA, more than 40 firefighters surged onto the scene, deploying eight fire engines, two aerial ladders, and a torrent of hoses to wrest control from the hungry inferno.
Local residents were urged to seal their homes—closing windows and doors—to keep the thick, black smoke plume from seeping inside.
One onlooker, still shaken, confessed, “I couldn’t believe it. Nothing like this has ever happened here before. When I first saw the pictures, I thought the fire would consume the entire centre, but thankfully it was halted before it could spread further.”
Fire crews battled through the night, their silhouettes flashing against the orange glow as they worked to prevent the flames from leaping into adjacent units.
Authorities continue to monitor the area, warning the public to avoid the vicinity until the blaze is fully extinguished and the structure deemed safe.
