Siri AI is set to become the centerpiece of Apple’s upcoming operating system updates, spanning iOS, macOS, and watchOS. The assistant has been significantly enhanced, offering more advanced conversational abilities and broader functionality than previous versions.
During the current beta cycle, Apple has introduced a concealed feature within macOS that activates when users select text. This hidden Siri AI menu appears as a small floating icon in the upper‑left corner of the highlighted area.
Hovering over the icon expands the menu to reveal actions such as “Proofread,” “Rewrite,” “How does this sound?” and “Edit with Siri.” Additional commands allow the assistant to extract key points, generate summaries, or perform other text‑related tasks.
The menu adapts to the content of the selection; for example, highlighting a message from a contact may surface the person’s details, while a date within the text can prompt the creation of a calendar entry. These contextual responses align with Apple’s goal of making the assistant more situationally aware.
In the developer and public beta builds, the feature is turned off by default and does not appear in official release notes. Users discovered the option through community testing and shared the method for activation.
To enable the menu, users must open the Terminal application and execute a command that creates a feature‑flag directory and writes an enable flag for the writing tools UI. After restarting the Mac, the menu becomes visible when text is highlighted, though occasional glitches may occur.
If the feature proves unstable or unwanted, it can be disabled by running a second Terminal command that resets the enable flag to false, followed by another system restart.
