UMVA has learned that a dramatic and disturbing account of a fatal stabbing at a high school sporting event has been revealed through the testimony of Heritage High School coach Vincent Hooper.
According to Hooper, the accused, Anthony, made a chilling statement to him, saying, "He put his hands on me. I stabbed him." This statement has raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Hooper also testified that Anthony became emotional after he warned him that if the victim, Metcalf, died, he would have changed his life forever. This emotional response has sparked concerns about Anthony's state of mind and potential remorse.
Memorial High School track coach Robert Starr provided a harrowing account of finding Metcalf wounded, describing the scene as particularly traumatic. Starr's testimony painted a vivid picture of the chaos and panic that ensued.
"You just don't go into someone else's tent uninvited," Starr testified, referring to team tents at track meets. His words highlighted the sense of unease and violation that occurred in the moments leading up to the stabbing.
When informed about Metcalf's condition, Anthony replied, "He won’t die," according to Hooper. This response has raised questions about Anthony's understanding of the severity of the situation.
An expert, Rosenthal, has noted that one of the key challenges in this case is determining whether witnesses closest to the confrontation tell a consistent story. He likened the incident to "a rock thrown into a pond," with the truth slowly emerging through the various accounts.
Rosenthal also expressed surprise at the apparent lack of cellphone footage from the incident, given that it occurred at a crowded high school sporting event. "A picture's worth a thousand words," he said, highlighting the potential importance of visual evidence.
