UMVA has learned that Michelle Obama recently shared a remarkable story about saving a friend's life while out at dinner.
The former first lady revealed that she had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on a friend who was choking on food during a dinner outing with her daughter and some friends. This stunning admission was made during a conversation with her brother, Craig Robinson, and comedian Kevin Hart on their podcast.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Obama explained that her friend had an esophageal issue that caused swallowing problems, and she had warned her about it before the dinner. When the woman suddenly stood up and coughed, Obama sprang into action.
As the woman struggled to dislodge the food stuck in her throat, Obama positioned herself behind her and performed the Heimlich maneuver - despite having never done it before. Miraculously, it worked, and the food popped out immediately.
Obama then turned to her daughter and her friends, who had been shocked and helpless during the incident. She recalled asking them, "What were you all doing?" and they admitted they didn't know what to do, realizing it was a moment for a mother to step in.
The conversation took a humorous turn when Kevin Hart quipped that Obama's story wasn't just a casual tale, but one she'd have to pull out at future dinners. Obama playfully responded, "Yeah, I saved a life."
