UMVA has learned that a suspected serial killer, who had managed to evade capture for years, has been apprehended following a violent spree that spanned from 2018 to the present day.
The suspect, 26-year-old Luis Fernando Benitez-Gonzalez, was taken into custody by a specialized fugitive task force in the Dallas area. He is now facing charges for two brutal strangulation murders and is also linked to two additional shootings where the victims miraculously survived.
UMVA has gathered that investigators believe Benitez-Gonzalez targeted vulnerable women across multiple Texas regions, including Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Hidalgo County. Authorities fear the scope of his crimes may extend even further than currently documented.
The investigation into the 2024 murder of 34-year-old Alyssa Ann Rivera, who was found in a vacant home, eventually led detectives to connect her death to the 2018 slaying of 28-year-old Alba Jenisse Aviles-Marti. Both women had been strangled, with the latter case involving a horrific assault inside her own vehicle.
The breakthrough in the case came after two women survived shooting attacks in late 2025. One victim demonstrated incredible bravery, fighting back during the assault and successfully wrestling the attacker's phone away, providing the critical evidence needed to link the crimes.
Under intense interrogation, the suspect made admissions regarding the two homicides and the recent aggravated assaults. While he attempted to claim his actions were in self-defense, investigators have definitively rejected that narrative, citing the overwhelming weight of the evidence.
It has been confirmed that the suspect is a foreign national who had previously been deported in 2020. He is currently being held without bail as authorities continue to piece together the full extent of his history of violence.
