A quiet neighborhood in Johnston County became the focus of a major law enforcement operation this week, culminating in the discovery of a hidden world of drugs, illegal alcohol, and gambling. The investigation began with a growing chorus of concerns from residents, reporting suspicious activity emanating from a property on Dragstrip Road.
Deputies from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside agents from the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, executed a search warrant on Wednesday, determined to address the escalating complaints. The property had reportedly become a consistent source of criminal activity, disrupting the peace of the surrounding community.
As officers moved in, a suspect, later identified as Danny Bruce Allen, attempted to flee the building, clutching a significant quantity of illegal substances. He was quickly apprehended, securing the scene for a thorough search that would reveal the extent of the operation.
Inside, investigators uncovered a staggering amount of evidence: 197 grams of cocaine, seven ounces, alongside 160 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 57 grams of oxycodone. The illicit haul was accompanied by the discovery of 58 gallons of untaxed moonshine and approximately $200,000 in cash.
Beyond the drugs and alcohol, the property housed multiple illegal gaming machines, confirming suspicions of a large-scale unlawful gambling operation. The sheer volume of evidence pointed to a sophisticated and well-established criminal enterprise.
Danny Bruce Allen now faces a multitude of serious charges, including trafficking in cocaine, methamphetamine, and oxycodone, as well as maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of illegal liquor. The charges reflect the gravity of the alleged offenses.
Sheriff Steve Bizzell emphasized the importance of collaboration between local and state agencies in effectively combating crime. He highlighted the proactive, community-driven approach that led to this significant disruption of illegal activity.
This case serves as a powerful example of how responsive law enforcement can be to the concerns of the public. The investigation, born from neighborhood complaints, ultimately dismantled a network involved in drug distribution, illegal alcohol sales, and unlawful gambling, restoring a sense of security to the community.
The successful operation underscores a commitment to aggressively pursuing those who seek to profit from illegal activities within Johnston County, promising continued vigilance against such threats.
