MOM LEFT TO DIE: Daughter's SHOCKING Confession!

MOM LEFT TO DIE: Daughter's SHOCKING Confession!

For two agonizing days, a 96-year-old woman lay on the floor of a home choked with debris, her body failing, her cries for help unanswered. Visiliki Atanosouki, a Greek immigrant nearing the end of her life, was discovered naked and ravaged by infection, a horrifying testament to prolonged neglect.

When paramedics finally arrived, they struggled to navigate the squalor, finding a woman whose skin had broken down, exposing bone. A massive, infected bed sore stretched across her back and legs, a grim consequence of being left immobile for far too long. Despite desperate attempts, they initially couldn’t detect a pulse.

She succumbed to complications the following day – a blood clot, heart disease, and the devastating effects of E. coli from untreated wounds. Her daughter, Eva Samonas, 73, now stands accused of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, and failing to provide the necessaries of life, yet maintains her innocence.

Eva Samonas, 73, has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death and not providing the necessaries of life.

Samonas, representing herself in court, painted a picture of a “stubborn” mother who refused assistance. She testified, through tears, that Atanosouki fell on January 4th, but vehemently resisted being helped. “She was laughing and talking and singing,” Samonas claimed, describing the scene as almost ordinary.

A diaper pad was placed beneath her, her head propped against the couch, but Samonas insisted she couldn’t override her mother’s wishes. Atanosouki, haunted by the loss of her husband in a hospital, reportedly declared, “No, no, they’re going to kill me.”

Samonas claimed she sought help from her brother, who urged her to call 911 due to his own back problems. Neighbors and a family friend also advised emergency intervention, fearing they would break her mother’s fragile bones. Yet, Samonas repeatedly stated she wanted to “respect what she wanted.”

Court heard the house shared by Eva Samonas and her elderly mother Visiliki Atanosouki was cluttered with debris.

The call for help finally came on Saturday morning, but even then, Samonas downplayed the severity of the situation. To the 911 dispatcher, she calmly requested a “check out” at the hospital, masking the desperate reality of her mother’s condition. She later admitted she couldn’t explain why she minimized the emergency.

The home itself was a shocking landscape of filth and clutter. Paramedics described barely being able to move through mountains of debris. Samonas acknowledged the squalor, admitting to flies in the refrigerator and piles of clothes obstructing the bathrooms, but insisted “it looks worse in the pictures.”

She shifted blame, describing her mother as a lifelong hoarder, a condition that had caused embarrassment since childhood. Moving in together during the pandemic only exacerbated the problem, with Samonas claiming her mother would strike her with a stick if she attempted to tidy up. “It was difficult staying there,” she sobbed.

Atanosouki had been diagnosed with dementia in 2017 and suffered from a heart condition, yet hadn’t seen a doctor in two years. Samonas rationalized this, stating her mother “didn’t seem like she needed a doctor” and wasn’t experiencing any obvious pain or crisis.

When questioned about the last time she bathed her mother, Samonas couldn’t recall. Episodes of her mother wandering off or becoming lost were acknowledged, but she admitted to ignoring recommendations from doctors in 2017 for additional support and resources.

The prosecutor pressed Samonas on her responsibility as a caregiver, demanding to know why she hadn’t called 911 when her mother first fell. Samonas maintained that her mother had recovered from falls before, and she “assumed” she would get up again. The prosecutor’s pointed question hung in the air: “So the plan was just to wait for her to pop back up like she’d done the day before?”

Closing submissions are expected, leaving a haunting question unanswered: how could a daughter stand by while her mother slowly slipped away, trapped not only by physical frailty, but by a suffocating environment of neglect and a desperate attempt to honor wishes that ultimately led to tragedy?
