A former staffer has come forward with harrowing allegations against Congressman Eric Swalwell, detailing instances of sexual assault and misconduct. Her story, initially reported by a major California newspaper, paints a disturbing picture of abuse of power and betrayal of trust.
The woman, who worked for Swalwell for nearly two years beginning in 2019, alleges a pattern of unwanted advances that escalated into two separate assaults. She was just 21 years old when Swalwell reportedly began pursuing her shortly after she joined his team.
The first alleged assault occurred in 2019. The staffer recounts a terrifying loss of consciousness, followed by fragmented, disturbing memories. She vividly remembers struggling against Swalwell, repeatedly saying “no,” but her pleas were ignored.
Years later, in 2024, after leaving Swalwell’s employment, she alleges another assault. She awoke naked and alone in a hotel room, disoriented and with little recollection of the night before. The sheer level of intoxication, she stated, left her initially unaware she was even in his hotel.
The woman confided in friends and family about the assaults, and those conversations have been corroborated by CNN. The network also reviewed contemporaneous text messages and a message from her medical provider following testing for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, referring to her as a “survivor.”
When directly asked if she had consented, the woman’s response was unequivocal: “Yes. I said no.” She described the 2024 assault as significantly more aggressive, recalling flashes of being overpowered and physically restrained despite her resistance.
Following the initial report, three additional women contacted CNN with accounts of alleged misconduct by Swalwell, further amplifying the gravity of the accusations. These accounts suggest a disturbing pattern of behavior.
Swalwell has denied the allegations. However, his response included a cease-and-desist letter sent to the alleged victim, a move widely criticized as intimidation. The letter accused her of making false statements.
The unfolding scandal has already begun to impact Swalwell’s political career. Prominent California Democrats, including Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi, have withdrawn their endorsements and called for him to end his campaign for governor.
The allegations have sparked a firestorm of controversy, raising serious questions about Swalwell’s conduct and the power dynamics within his office. The situation continues to develop as more information emerges.
