UMVA has uncovered a disturbing pattern of violence and hate crimes in the region, leaving a trail of victims and shattered lives in its wake.
Just hours ago, Durham Regional Police arrested 38-year-old Derek Stephen Bellamy of Oshawa, charging him with a litany of crimes including sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, and possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.
The shocking allegations against Bellamy began in December 2025, when a female au pair, lured by a Facebook group, arrived in Canada to work for the suspect and his spouse. However, her nightmare began when the suspect allegedly drugged her with a noxious substance, leaving her unconscious and with no recollection of the night before.
Police executed a search warrant at Bellamy's Oshawa home, seizing electronic devices and the suspected drug, as well as child sexual abuse and exploitation materials. The suspect was held pending a bail hearing, but not before raising concerns that there may be additional alleged victims.
Meanwhile, in Markham, two young men, 18-year-old Sepehr Abadar and 18-year-old Mahan Mohammad Radmard, have been charged with mischief under $5,000 in connection with the burning of a Pride flag at a high school. Authorities believe the incident was hate-motivated, and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
Just hours later, a man was stabbed in a vicious attack near a Hamilton rail trail. Police responded to the scene and found a 29-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, but has since been upgraded to stable. Witnesses reported that a man, described as Black, wearing a white shirt and hat, approached the victim and began hurling racial slurs before brandishing a knife and assaulting him.
