A dramatic beach rescue attempt in Scarborough went horribly wrong, leaving a £120,000 Range Rover submerged in the water. The driver, who was attempting to tow a stranded van out of the sand, became stuck himself, and despite digging efforts and advice from onlookers, both vehicles were eventually submerged.
Witnesses described the scene as "absolutely stupid," with the driver ignoring advice from locals and using a jet ski in an attempt to free his vehicle. The Range Rover, which was fully mobile at first, became stuck in the sand as the driver reversed it into the jet ski.
As the situation worsened, the driver and his companions tried to lift the front of the van, but their efforts were in vain. The vehicles eventually became fully submerged, with only the aerial of the van sticking out of the water.
Rescue workers, who were waiting for the tide to go out before towing the vehicles, informed the involved parties that their insurance would be void due to the circumstances. The vehicles were eventually hauled out of the beach by diggers.
