Traffic has come to a standstill on the M25 in Surrey after a serious crash occurred on the motorway.
Photos from the scene show drivers taking their dogs out for a walk on the carriageway, while others have expressed concern for the safety of those involved.
One motorist, who was stuck in the closure, reported missing his first flight in 50 years due to the 'horrific' crash.
'No point stressing, some poor soul might not be going home today,' he said, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The M25 has been blocked in both directions while emergency services work at the scene, with traffic being held on the motorway clockwise at J6 Godstone.
Delays are expected to exceed 60 minutes, with 6 miles of congestion on the approach.
The incident occurred during a heatwave, with temperatures approaching 30C in the area, and the road surface likely to be several degrees hotter.
National Highways have confirmed that the scene is currently being attended by emergency services, with an air ambulance working at the scene.
As soon as the scene is deemed safe, traffic can be released, but for now, drivers are being advised to expect significant delays.
