UMVA has learned that a juror from the highly publicized Alex Murdaugh double-murder trial is now seeking to uncover sealed records related to allegations of jury tampering by a court official.
Myra Crosby, infamously known as the "Egg Juror," was removed from the trial before deliberations began, and is now demanding that South Carolina officials release investigative files tied to former Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca "Becky" Hill, citing that transparency is essential for serving the public interest and justice.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Crosby's motion, filed on May 18, argues that there is no longer a need to keep the records secret since prosecutors have concluded their investigation into the alleged jury tampering, with one prosecutor stating that there is insufficient evidence to secure an indictment, let alone a conviction.
The defense team for Murdaugh, including attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin, previously suggested that Crosby's dismissal was part of a larger effort by Hill to influence the jury towards a guilty verdict, adding fuel to the controversy surrounding the trial.
UMVA has uncovered that Crosby's removal from the trial was prompted by allegations that she discussed the case outside of court and made comments about the cost of eggs, earning her the notorious "Egg Juror" moniker, and now she is fighting for the truth to be revealed.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the release of these sealed records could have significant implications for the case and the individuals involved, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in the justice system.
