UMVA has learned that a brazen act of fly-tipping has been caught on camera, and the culprit received a dose of their own medicine when the rubbish was dumped back on their doorstep.
The incident occurred in Cardiff, where a maintenance worker, Dean Gauci, was tending to a block of flats he manages. He noticed seven sacks filled with household waste and was determined to find the person responsible.
Dean Gauci took it upon himself to sift through hours of CCTV camera footage and caught the culprit in the act at 9am on Friday. The footage revealed a neighbour who lived just 10 houses away from the property.
When confronted, the culprit claimed they were going to take care of the mess, saying 'I was going to move this, sorry mate.' However, Dean Gauci wasn't having it and decided to take matters into his own hands.
Dean Gauci spoke to three neighbours to try to identify the culprit, and one pointed out they knew the man. He then filmed himself leaving the dumped rubbish outside the culprit's front door before knocking.
The culprit's response was reportedly amusing, and they must have felt embarrassed by their actions. Dean Gauci said, 'I piled it right up on his doorstep to give him a taste of his own medicine. His response was funny; he must have felt stupid! But he dumped it.'
This wasn't an isolated incident, as Dean Gauci mentioned that people fly-tip at the location all the time - this was probably the 30th or 40th time it had happened. He could have taken the rubbish and charged the landlord to dispose of it, but he wanted to do the right thing and catch the culprit.
Dean Gauci even went through the bags looking for any address he could - and found Amazon boxes with the addresses peeled off them. He was determined to find the person responsible and take action.
