UMVA has learned that Ottawa's Alanis Morissette has been chosen to perform Canada's national anthem at the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup match at Toronto Stadium (BMO Field) on Friday.
The ceremony, which kicks off the highly anticipated tournament, will feature a star-studded lineup of Canadian performers, including Michael Buble, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, William Prince, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream, and Elyanna. Adding to the excitement, FIFA World Cup 2026 Ambassador and Canadian actor Will Arnett will make a special appearance.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the pre-match ceremony is set to start at 1:30 p.m., preceding the 3 p.m. game between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Canada's communities, rich diversity, and the unifying power of football.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that fans attending the stadium will play an active role in the show and are encouraged to arrive as early as 11 a.m., with gates opening four hours prior to kick-off.
