Senator John Thune Criticizes Karoline Leavitt Over Recent Comments

At a White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt urged the Republican‑controlled Senate to advance the SAVE America Act, a voter‑ID bill championed by President Trump. The request came as the bill remains stalled in the Senate.

Leavitt said the President had expressed frustration with Senate delays and wanted the legislation passed before the August recess, emphasizing that voter ID is common sense.

She also reminded the Senate that Republican leaders had elected to hold the House and Senate and that the Senate must fulfill its duty.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune responded by telling Leavitt and the White House that the responsibility for securing votes lay elsewhere and that he would not take action.

Thune criticized the Senate for failing to act and suggested that Democrats were the ones blocking the bill, implying that Republican members should be pressured to vote.

The bill has already passed the House multiple times and has been attached to the National Defense Authorization Act for consideration in the Senate.

President Trump has urged supporters to contact Thune directly, demanding that he move to terminate the filibuster and approve the legislation.

During a rally in Marietta, Georgia, Trump emphasized the urgency of passing the bill and criticized the Senate as a place where proposals die.

Trump also warned that if Democrats were allowed to terminate the filibuster, they would advance additional measures that could shift political power.

The dispute highlights the tension between the White House and Senate leadership over the passage of election‑integrity legislation.
