A Florida pastor, ironically the author of a book on marital devotion, now faces bigamy charges after allegedly marrying multiple women. Leslie Williams, 62, was arrested at The Villages, a sprawling retirement community known for whispers and rumors, on an outstanding warrant from Georgia.
The arrest stemmed from a complaint initially filed with the Haines City Police Department, eventually leading investigators to Rockdale County, Georgia, where Williams’ previous marriage was officially recorded. Records confirmed he was still legally married when he entered into subsequent unions.
Just months before his arrest, Williams publicly announced his marriage to a woman named Cindi on Facebook, proclaiming himself “THE HAPPIEST MAN on earth!!” The post featured a photo of Cindi, which he proudly set as his cover image.
However, a friend’s skeptical comment – “Wow I thought you were already married. Congratulations!!” – hinted at a hidden truth. This initial doubt foreshadowed a swift unraveling of the public display of affection.
Within two months, the celebratory cover photo vanished, replaced by a picture of a car. Simultaneously, Williams quietly changed his Facebook relationship status from “married” to “single,” a digital confession preceding legal consequences.
The warrant for his arrest was issued on April 3rd, setting in motion his extradition from Florida back to Georgia to face the charges. He is currently held without bond, awaiting the legal process.
The irony is stark: Williams authored “Love Her Like This: Loving Her Has Never Been Deeper,” a book intended to fortify marriages through biblical principles and unwavering commitment. It aimed to combat rising divorce rates by mirroring Christ’s devotion to his church.
He presented himself as an apologist and teacher, delivering “relevant and timely messages” to his congregation. His ministry, Leslie Williams Ministries, operated within the unique social landscape of The Villages.
The Villages, one of the world’s largest retirement communities, has long been the subject of speculation, with persistent rumors of a vibrant, unconventional social scene and elevated rates of sexually transmitted infections. This backdrop adds another layer of intrigue to the pastor’s downfall.
The case raises unsettling questions about deception and the disparity between public persona and private actions, leaving a community grappling with a betrayal of trust and a shattered image of marital fidelity.
