A sophisticated network of auto theft is unraveling across Ontario, with investigators urgently seeking two key figures believed to be at the heart of the operation. The Durham Regional Police are pursuing leads in two separate, yet potentially connected, investigations targeting the trafficking of dozens of stolen vehicles.
Clinton Hahn, 43, of Brampton, is currently wanted on a staggering 59 charges. These include ten counts of outright vehicle theft and an astonishing 43 counts related to possessing stolen property valued over $5,000 with the intent to sell it. He also faces additional charges for possessing property under $5,000 and violating a release order.
The investigation suggests Hahn wasn’t acting alone, but rather orchestrating a large-scale trafficking operation. Police believe he was responsible for moving a network of over 40 stolen vehicles, turning illicit gains into a complex criminal enterprise.
Meanwhile, authorities are also searching for Nicholas Blanchette, a 23-year-old man from Quebec. Investigators believe Blanchette travels from his home province specifically to steal vehicles within the Greater Toronto Area, acting as a crucial component of an organized auto theft ring.
Blanchette is facing a formidable list of charges, including vehicle theft, multiple counts of trafficking in stolen property exceeding $5,000, possession of stolen goods for trafficking purposes, and conspiracy to commit a serious indictable offense. A probation order violation adds to the severity of the accusations.
Durham Police’s auto robbery crime unit believes Blanchette’s involvement points to a coordinated effort extending beyond provincial borders. The case highlights the growing challenge of cross-jurisdictional auto theft and the sophisticated methods employed by these criminal groups.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Clinton Hahn or Nicholas Blanchette is urged to contact Detective Constable Nicholson. Confidential tips can also be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, where anonymity is guaranteed and a cash reward may be offered.
