UMVA has learned that a tense phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has exposed a deep rift between the two leaders.
The call, which reportedly took place on Monday, centered on Israel's military operation in Lebanon, and Trump allegedly lashed out at Netanyahu, calling him "crazy" and ungrateful. According to sources, Trump claimed he had saved Netanyahu from prison during his corruption trial, and accused him of being reckless.
The explosive conversation reportedly included Trump telling Netanyahu: "You're f*ing crazy. You'd be in prison if it weren't for me. I'm saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this." The stark warning came as Netanyahu ordered the Israeli Defence Forces to attack Hezbollah targets in the Dahiyeh district in Beirut.
The Israeli strikes in Lebanon have sparked concerns about a wider conflict, with Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arraghchi stating that the attacks violate a ceasefire agreed to by the U.S. and Iran on April 7. Arraghchi warned that any violation of the ceasefire on one front is a violation on all fronts, and that the U.S. and Israel are responsible for the consequences.
Despite the tensions, Trump attempted to put a positive spin on the call, describing it as "productive" and stating that no Israeli troops will head to Beirut. He also claimed to have had productive talks with Hezbollah representatives, saying they agreed to stop shooting at Israel, and that Israel agreed to stop shooting back.
However, Netanyahu later clarified that he told Trump that if Hezbollah does not cease attacking Israeli cities and citizens, Israel will attack terror targets in Beirut. He also emphasized that the Israeli Defence Forces will continue to operate as planned in southern Lebanon, leaving the situation precarious.
The developments have raised questions about the future of peace talks between Washington and Tehran, with Trump maintaining that discussions are ongoing. The fragile situation continues to unfold, with the international community watching closely.
