DEMANDING ANSWERS: Apple, Where's the Mac Event?!

It struck me recently, while discussing it with my editor, just how long it’s been since Apple dedicated an entire event solely to the Mac. The last true Mac-focused announcement wasn’t at a keynote, but a “Scary Fast” event back in October 2023. Since then, Macs have been relegated to brief mentions, almost afterthoughts, during larger presentations.

Initially, I accepted this shift. The iPhone’s dominance is undeniable, and the Mac, after four decades, feels… established. It’s a mature platform, reliable and enduring, seemingly capable of maintaining itself. But as someone deeply invested in the Mac ecosystem, a longing for dedicated showcases remained.

The recent Apple Experience event for the MacBook Neo doesn’t qualify. It was an exclusive gathering, a presentation for invited guests only, communicated to the wider public through press releases and online videos. Considering the Neo’s significance, a full keynote felt warranted.

Perhaps this desire seems trivial to some. But for those who witnessed Steve Jobs unveil the original Mac, or the revolutionary iMac, these events were more than product launches. They were declarations, celebrations of innovation and a unique way of thinking. Even the 2023 “Scary Fast” event felt like a heartfelt message to devoted users.

The Mac holds a special place for many, representing a particular approach to work and creativity. It fosters a stronger sense of community than any other Apple product. A dedicated event would be a powerful reminder that the Mac is where Apple’s journey began, the foundation upon which everything else is built.

The excitement surrounding the MacBook Neo is a testament to this enduring appeal. Its combination of affordability and quality has sparked renewed interest, drawing newcomers into the Mac world. And what they’re discovering is a welcoming, supportive community eager to share their knowledge and passion.

Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, is himself a Mac enthusiast, and that’s incredibly encouraging. His leadership in the coming years will be pivotal for Apple’s future. The technology landscape demands constant evolution, and strategic decisions are more critical now than ever before.

Reviving dedicated Mac presentation events would be a remarkably effective first step. It would signal that the Mac remains a core priority for Apple, strengthening the bonds within its vibrant community. The Neo has demonstrated that community is expanding, and it deserves to be nurtured with dedicated showcases.
