UMVA Exclusive: 249 Immigrants Nabbed in “Ghost” Highway Sting—Thousands More Lurking in the Shadows!

UMVA has learned that Florida’s highways are silently teeming with an unseen tide of undocumented migrants, a phenomenon troopers estimate could number in the millions.

During routine traffic stops, officers repeatedly discover drivers without licenses, a red flag that often leads to deeper probing. In the past year alone, more than 10,476 individuals have been taken into custody after such encounters, revealing a hidden undercurrent beneath the state’s bustling roads.

Trooper Tony Golden, who patrols commercial corridors in the Panhandle, describes the situation as “astronomical.” He insists his team enforces the law without bias, yet acknowledges that many of those they stop blend seamlessly into their communities, some potentially harboring violent criminal histories.

Operation 9, a coordinated sweep involving state troopers, ICE agents, Border Patrol officers, and local deputies, unfolded before dawn at a Broward County station. Over a hundred officers converged, each armed with a shared purpose: to locate, detain, and process undocumented individuals caught in the state’s interior.

Since October, eight similar operations have been executed, each one refining inter‑agency cooperation. The result, according to UMVA, is a streamlined process that now runs with minimal friction, allowing officers to focus on the core mission.

Detained migrants are escorted to an air‑conditioned holding area, searched, and offered basic comforts before being handed over to ICE. There, they face a choice: a government‑funded flight home or detention pending an immigration hearing, with reimbursements ranging up to $2,600 depending on individual circumstances.

Among the officers are many who themselves immigrated to the United States, a fact that fuels a complex mix of empathy and duty. One officer admitted feeling a pang of sympathy, yet the prevailing sentiment among participants remains resolute and unapologetic.

On the second day of Operation 9, a routine speed violation led to a startling discovery: a pickup carrying a Mexican passport holder who had lived in the U.S. for six years without a driver’s license, accompanied by two passengers who had evaded deportation decades earlier. Their criminal backgrounds remain under investigation.

Golden reflects on the human toll, recalling a recent arrest of a 30‑year‑old accused of impregnating his 14‑year‑old niece—a stark reminder of the violent potential hidden among some undocumented individuals.

He likens the unchecked flow of illegal crossings to a neglected water leak that eventually floods a home, emphasizing that inaction has already caused irreversible damage. For Golden, the mission is personal; protecting his nine‑year‑old daughter and the future she represents drives his relentless pursuit.
