Tillis Criticizes Trump’s Workaround to Confirm Todd Blanche

The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a scheduled vote on the nomination of Todd Blanche for attorney general.

Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said the delay resulted from requests by Senators Thom Tillis and John Cornyn for written assurances from the Justice Department regarding the Trump‑IRS settlement.

Grassley’s office emphasized that the committee seeks sufficient support to report Blanche favorably, noting his qualifications for the position.

President Trump responded by indicating he might temporarily withdraw Blanche’s nomination until the two senators leave office.

In a statement, Trump described Blanche as a “star” and suggested the nomination could be reinstated after the senators’ terms end.

Senator Tillis later criticized the president, asserting that the administration was receiving poor advice and urging that the nomination be fully withdrawn.

Tillis also rejected the president’s advisor who advocated reviving a disputed fund.

Later that day, Senators Tillis and Cornyn met with Blanche, and reports indicated they were close to reaching a resolution.
