Welch’s language was stark and uncompromising, repeatedly asserting that Biden had profoundly “f*ed us” by not demanding a more forceful prosecution of those she believes were the true instigators of the Capitol riot. She didn’t focus on the individuals already facing charges, dismissing them as “low-level offenders.”
Her anger extended far beyond the immediate aftermath of January 6th. Welch specifically called for investigations into prominent figures within the conservative sphere, naming Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, as a key target. She also leveled accusations against organizations like The Heritage Foundation and Turning Point.
According to Welch, the core failing of the Biden administration wasn’t economic hardship, foreign policy challenges, or declining public trust. Instead, she argued, the greatest misstep was a lack of sweeping, politically motivated prosecutions aimed at silencing ideological opponents. It was a perspective that revealed a desire for what she perceived as justice, but others might call retribution.
“You had one important appointment: who you appointed to be attorney general,” Welch stated, expressing initial optimism about Biden’s election. She believed the Attorney General should have been explicitly tasked with pursuing those who funded and planned the events of January 6th, drawing a connection to other controversial figures and events.
Welch painted a picture of a meticulously orchestrated effort, with significant financial backing from powerful individuals and organizations. She claimed the president himself contributed $3 million towards planning, transportation, and lodging for those involved, framing these actions as the true criminal activity that went unpunished.
While acknowledging Biden’s legislative achievements – the CHIPS Act and the Infrastructure Act – Welch insisted these were overshadowed by the perceived failure to confront what she described as a looming threat of “fascism.” For her, the pursuit of political enemies took precedence over all other concerns.
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Reports indicate Welch previously delivered a similarly charged, profanity-laced critique during a GLAAD Media Awards appearance, targeting both ICE and former President Trump.
