BUSTED: Drug Kingpin's Lies CRUMBLE – Justice Delivered!

Abdulmalik Ismail stood before the court, entering pleas of not guilty to serious charges – possession of a loaded firearm, possessing a prohibited weapon, and trafficking fentanyl. Yet, a peculiar legal strategy unfolded, one designed to preserve his right to challenge the very foundations of his arrest.

This wasn’t a denial of what happened, but a calculated move to safeguard potential appeals based on constitutional questions surrounding the police search and the evidence gathered. Superior Court Justice Michael Carnegie, presented with an agreed-upon statement of facts, found Ismail guilty on all counts, effectively acknowledging the events while leaving the legality of the process open for debate.

The case began with a tip to London police on December 20, 2023. Information surfaced about a man in a blue winter coat, reportedly armed, inside an apartment building at 241 Simcoe Street. Officers quickly confirmed someone matching the description had entered a sixth-floor unit.

Approximately an hour later, Ismail emerged from the building and was apprehended on the ground floor, stepping off the elevator. A search of his satchel revealed a loaded Glock 26 semi-automatic handgun and a significant quantity – 142 grams, or five ounces – of suspected fentanyl.

Further investigation confirmed the firearm was legally prohibited, and Ismail was already under a court order forbidding him from possessing any weapons. Laboratory analysis verified the substance as a dangerous mixture of fentanyl and various cutting agents, solidifying the trafficking charge.

The amount of fentanyl seized was far beyond what would be considered for personal use, a clear indicator of intent to distribute. The Crown argued this quantity unequivocally pointed towards trafficking activities.

London police seized a handgun, hollow-point bullets, fentanyl and cash on Simcoe Street on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023.

Ismail’s defense lawyer requested a pre-sentence report, specifically requesting it address the impact of anti-Black racism, systemic biases, and potential immigration consequences. A sentencing hearing is now scheduled for June 5th, where these factors will be considered.

This latest legal trouble comes just three months after Ismail completed an eight-month sentence for a violent assault. The incident occurred at a black-market cannabis shop in Brantford on January 27, 2023, where he stabbed an employee with an eight-inch knife.

An argument had escalated, and after being asked to leave, Ismail attacked the employee from behind, inflicting a significant puncture wound. He was arrested three days later with two other men at a Windsor hotel, though charges against them were ultimately withdrawn.

The court heard a compelling story of Ismail’s past during the Brantford sentencing. His family had fled the devastation of war-torn Somalia, spending five formative years in a Kenyan refugee camp before eventually settling in Alberta.

Despite finding a new home, Ismail faced relentless bullying and racist taunts throughout his schooling, compounded by existing cognitive and mental health challenges. The initial plan following the Brantford plea was for him to live with his father and pursue his education.

However, Ismail remained in custody after the Brantford case due to outstanding issues – a probation violation and previous threats made in Hamilton. His complex history, marked by trauma and legal entanglements, now weighs heavily as he awaits his fate.
