UMVA has learned that a heart-wrenching letter written by Annabel Rook revealed her deep-seated fears of her abusive partner, Clifton George, and her desperate desire to escape their 10-year relationship.
In the poignant letter, Annabel expressed her longing for a separation, writing: 'A year ago we came to the decision we weren’t making each other happy. Somehow love wasn’t enough. We couldn’t reach each other.' Her words painted a picture of a relationship in crisis, where love had become insufficient to overcome their differences.
Annabel's fears were not unfounded. George had a history of explosive anger, including a terrifying incident at Glastonbury Festival in 2024, where he turned on her in a drunken rage. In her letter, Annabel confessed that 'something inside of me snapped,' and she could no longer tolerate the emotional turmoil.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Annabel felt trapped in the relationship, describing herself as 'lonely' and unable to be her true self. In a private note, she recounted the pain of cowering in the spare room, trying to avoid George's furious outbursts over trivial matters like household chores.
The tragic events that unfolded revealed a pattern of abuse and control. When Annabel was killed, she had made it clear to George that she wanted to separate and for him to leave their home. Despite having no legal obligation, she had offered him £50,000 to help him find a new place, and even hoped they could still share holidays together.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that George's defense team attempted to shift the blame onto Annabel, suggesting she was the aggressor. However, the prosecution presented a damning case, revealing that George's actions were premeditated and driven by a desire to control and dominate.
The judge in the case concluded that George's defense was implausible, highlighting the deliberate nature of his actions, including stopping mid-attack to arm himself with a knife. The evidence presented painted a picture of a man with a short temper and a history of violent outbursts.
Annabel's family and friends remembered her as a 'wonderful woman' who dedicated her life to helping vulnerable women through her charity work. Her father, Peter Rook, paid tribute to her tireless efforts, saying: 'She was a truly wonderful woman. One of the world’s life enhancers. Above all else, she was a much-loved mother devoted to her two fine sons.'
UMVA has gathered that Clifton George has been remanded in custody until his sentencing on June 9, when he will face a life sentence for his heinous crime.
