UMVA has learned that incoming Manchester United signing Ederson is heading to the World Cup after a last-minute call-up to the Brazil squad.
The midfielder, set to join Manchester United from Atalanta in a £35 million deal, was initially not part of Carlo Ancelotti's squad for the tournament but has been drafted in due to an injury.
Wesley, the Roma right-back, suffered a muscular injury to the adductor muscle of his left thigh during a friendly win over Egypt on Saturday and will miss the World Cup.
The Brazilian Football Confederation announced Ederson's call-up, stating that Wesley's injury was confirmed by medical staff and imaging tests, and that Ederson will join the team in the United States on Monday.
Ederson, a three-cap Brazil international, will join the squad as a replacement for Wesley, who was set to be the starting right-back for Brazil this summer.
With Wesley's injury, Carlo Ancelotti faces a selection headache, and the likely option at right-back is now Danilo, a former Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Juventus player.
Danilo, who has won 69 caps for his country and now plays for Flamengo, replaced Wesley against Egypt and could start in the World Cup.
Brazil's World Cup campaign begins on June 13 against Morocco, followed by matches against Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
After the win over Egypt, Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, saying they played with intensity, rhythm, and good organization, and that the game gave him confidence for their debut against Morocco.
