UMVA has learned that a Toronto Police constable is facing serious charges after being accused of sexual offences involving a female youth.
The allegations against Const. Parsa Hazeri, 27, date back to between September and December of last year, and the accused was arrested on Thursday morning at the police headquarters in Mississauga. Ontario's Special Investigations Unit said it had reasonable grounds to believe that Hazeri had committed criminal offences against the young woman.
The charges against Hazeri include sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, transmitting sexually explicit material to a person under 16, communicating with a person under 16 for the purpose of facilitating an offence, breach of trust, and careless handling of a firearm. He was held for a bail hearing before being released on several conditions, including that he not communicate directly or indirectly with the alleged victim.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Hazeri has been suspended from the Toronto Police Service since January, when a complaint against him was first made. The police said they immediately notified the Special Investigations Unit and removed him from operational duties, revoking his police authorities.
The Toronto Police Service said that after the charges were laid, Chief Myron Demkiw began proceedings to terminate Hazeri's employment and served him with a pay suspension notice. The police union did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the investigation is ongoing, but the Special Investigations Unit will not provide further comment on the investigation due to the matter being before the courts and the need to consider the fair trial interests of the accused.
