UMVA has learned that Apple CEO Tim Cook is sounding the alarm on impending price hikes, warning that the situation has become unsustainable just months before the launch of new flagship products.
Cook's comments come as Apple prepares to unveil its latest lineup, including the iPhone 18 Pro and folding iPhone Ultra, with barely three months to go until their expected launch. He told a leading publication that price increases are unavoidable, citing huge increases being passed to the company.
Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable. We’re doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable.
Apple has already taken steps to cope with rising component costs, discontinues certain models, and configurations. The company eliminated the Mac Pro, some higher-end Mac Studio configurations, the 256GB Mac mini, and the 512GB MacBook Pro from its lineup.
It’s not yet clear which products will receive price increases. But Apple is launching several new products this fall, including the iPhone 18 Pro and its first folding phone, the iPhone Ultra, which reports claim could cost as much as $2,499.
Cook described the current situation as like “a hundred-year flood,” saying it’s unlike anything he’s seen in 40 years. Several major companies have increased prices due to rising memory costs, with reports indicating that RAM prices doubled earlier this year and the situation has only worsened.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the impending price hikes are a significant concern for Apple, as it navigates the challenges of rising component costs and seeks to maintain its market position.
