Jordan Attack Kills US Soldier

A US soldier believed to have been killed in Jordan during an attack is being remembered for living a life of courage and selflessness. Sgt. Angel Rampersad, 28, from New York, was one of three soldiers who died in action on July 17, 2026, during an enemy attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The incident occurred while US Central Command and partner forces defended against ballistic missile and drone attacks. Sgt. Rampersad's death is a significant loss for the nation.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences, stating that Sgt. Rampersad lived a life of courage and selflessness, making New York and the nation safer through her service. Hochul also honored Sgt. Rampersad's memory, remembering her sacrifice and keeping her loved ones in prayers. The governor's statement reflected the sentiments of many who are grieving the loss of the brave soldier.

The Department of War is investigating the incident that led to Sgt. Rampersad's death, which was initially reported as a missing person case. Two other soldiers, 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, from Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, from Texas, were also killed in the attack. The three soldiers were in Jordan supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, an international campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Sgt. Rampersad was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, and served as a signal operations support specialist. She had enlisted in the Army in March 2019 and earned several awards, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. Brig. Gen. Glenn Henke, commanding general of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, extended his condolences to Sgt. Rampersad's family and fellow soldiers, saying the command is grieving and will continue to support each other.

The death of Sgt. Rampersad and the two other soldiers has sparked strong reactions, with many calling for action against those responsible for the attack. The incident highlights the risks and sacrifices made by soldiers serving in combat zones, and the need for continued support and recognition of their bravery and selflessness.
