The family of an 18-year-old woman found fatally shot in a Boston home has identified her as Yoseliani Marte. Her mother created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral expenses, stating that her daughter was killed as a result of domestic violence.
Police responded to a residence in the Mattapan neighborhood around 1:52 p.m. Saturday, where they found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The home is owned by Conan Harris, who has been married to Rep. Ayanna Pressley since 2014.
The residence is a two-family property that has been listed for sale for $1.15 million. Rep. Pressley and her husband do not live at the property, but rather rent it out as a rental property. A spokesperson for Pressley's office stated that neither the congresswoman nor her family were involved in the incident.
A neighbor described the usually calm neighborhood as shaken by the large police response on Saturday. "We got home and there were police coming down the street, they blocked off with crime tape and neighbors gathered around," the neighbor said. The neighbor also expressed sadness at the tragic event, stating that the neighborhood is a wonderful place to be.
A vigil was reportedly held for the victim on Sunday night, and the manner of death remains under investigation by the Boston police department. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and condolences have been extended to the family and loved ones impacted by the tragedy.
