President Trump responded Monday to Iran’s targeting of U.S. forces in the Middle East, pledging a decisive retaliation.
He told reporters that the United States would hit Iranian positions hard and that Tehran would face a strong response.
The comments followed a surprise missile attack launched by Iran against a U.S. base, occurring just days after the president halted a two‑week bombing campaign to pursue diplomatic negotiations.
Trump had earlier said that deep talks with Iran were underway, but warned that failure of those talks would lead to renewed military action.
U.S. Central Command reported that the attempted Iranian missile strikes were successfully intercepted.
In retaliation, U.S. and Saudi Arabian fighter aircraft conducted joint strikes on multiple logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq.
The operation targeted facilities linked to Iran‑aligned groups after more than 30 drone attacks attributed to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the preceding 72 hours.
Officials described the strikes as a robust response to the recent aggression.
