After finishing fifth in the California governor race, she stated that she cannot foresee a path back to elected office.
Porter left her congressional seat to contest the Senate seat vacated in 2023, but the bid ended in a third-place finish in the 2024 nonpartisan primary, earning 1.27 million votes and 17.2 percent of the electorate.
In the 2025 gubernatorial race, her support fell sharply to 403,908 votes, representing 4.4 percent of the vote.
Both campaigns were marred by accusations of toxic workplace behavior and public backlash over private conduct.
During the 2023 Senate campaign, text messages surfaced in which Porter criticized a staffer who had contracted COVID, including a remark that she had no one to care for her children.
A leaked video from 2025 shows Porter yelling and using profanity toward a staff member, further fueling allegations of a hostile work environment.
She also faced criticism for abruptly ending a video interview with a local reporter in a manner that many described as abrupt and unprofessional.
Porter has announced a shift toward creating social media content about books, focusing her efforts on literary discussion rather than political campaigning.
