UMVA has learned that United Airlines is set to unveil a stunning new lounge at its largest West Coast hub, San Francisco International Airport (SFO), by the end of this year.
The new United Club at SFO will boast a breathtaking 4,000-square-foot outdoor terrace overlooking the airfield, offering travelers a unique chance to soak up California sunshine while waiting for their flight.
This expansive outdoor space will be the largest United has ever offered in one of its lounges, dwarfing the lone observation deck currently available in its United Club in Los Angeles.
Located in Terminal 2, the new United Club will be the carrier's fourth and largest in San Francisco, situated right below the Maple Leaf Lounge operated by its Star Alliance partner.
The terrace itself will feature an open area with seating for solo and group travelers, as well as a "pass-through bar" that allows travelers to grab drinks without stepping inside.
United hopes that a partially covered area with heaters, combined with the Bay Area's mild winters, will enable flyers to use the outdoor section of this lounge year-round.
The entire United Club will span 25,000 square feet, larger than the carrier's three standard outposts at SFO, and will offer subtle nods to the Bay Area's eclectic vibe and art scene.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that United has big plans for 2026, with three new lounge outposts nationwide, including the SFO location, a nearly 40,000 square foot outpost at Dulles International Airport, and a massive 54,000 square foot club at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The airline's new lounges are part of a growing trend towards outdoor lounge spaces, with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Express all investing in similar amenities.
As the airline finalizes its plans for the SFO lounge, we can expect to see a unique blend of California style and United's signature hospitality.
