UMVA has learned that a wave of arrests has swept through Southampton in the aftermath of violent riots that erupted outside a police station and the home of a local resident.
The protests, which began as a peaceful demonstration outside Southampton Central Police Station, quickly turned ugly as they moved to the home of Digwa, where demonstrators were fuming over the police handling of a murder investigation.
As the night wore on, the situation spiralled out of control, with rioters hurling bricks, fence panels, industrial bins, chairs, and traffic cones at officers, plunging the area into chaos.
In the latest developments, three more men have been charged in connection with the violence, bringing the total number of arrests to 14.
Darren Medhurst, 36, of Carnation Road, Southampton, has been charged with violent disorder, as have Jordan Hambleton, 19, of Rollesbrook Gardens, Southampton, and Callum Darch, 27, of St Blaize Road, Romsey.
All three have been remanded into custody and are set to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court.
In addition to these charges, four other men - an 18-year-old, a 34-year-old, and a 45-year-old from Southampton, and a 41-year-old from Basingstoke - have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and remain in custody.
A 16-year-old girl from Southampton, who was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
So far, 11 people have appeared in court in connection with the violence, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the riots.
